Kopitiam Cafe, Milpitas, CA

I was very excited about this Kopi Tiam. A Malasian/Singaporean coffee shop in San Jose? How great would that be?

My excitement was short lived. The quality of the food really fall short of my expectation.

Roti - Do yourself a favor and skip these. For the price of one, you can easily pick up a half dozen pack of frozen ones from Chinese grocery. That is what they serve here anyway.

All of their curry sauce including the Laksa broth tasted strangely familiar. They all bear this strong resemblance to a ready-made curry sauce that I used to purchase. Quite tasty and spicy, also fully loaded with MSG.

Most of their entrees seemed to be ‘assembled’ and not really prepared in house. It is not a sin to serve frozen store brought items, especially in a small cafe. I have even been served Trader Joe pastries at a restaurant before. This is just not a place to get a proper meal. Come here for a drink or quick snack. The ambiance is warm and inviting.
